Monster squid

There was a squid caught in the Antarctic waters that weighed 1,089 pounds and 33 feet long. It took two fishermen to reel it in in two hours, now that's a good fishing trip. Its said to be the largest of the rare , mysterious deep water specimen. Not long after it was caught they froze it so that scientists could study it later on. Scientists say that this species could get up to 49 feet long. The article said that if they were to cut it up for calamari the rings would be the size of tractor tires but they would taste like ammonia. Now one of those rings alone would be a meal for one or maybe two.

Grizzly Bears

The Grizzly bears that live in and around Yellowstone National park have been taken off the endangered species act protection list. When the list was first made there were only about 100 to 300 grizzlies now there are more than 500 hundred of them. Because they are such a large predator they need a large space to roam which is hard to do with today's growing community. The grizzly is another example of how we really can save endangered animals if we really commit to saving them.

Little Owl

One of the smallest owls was seen for the first time in the wild in Peru in the northern jungle. The population of the little owlet is said to be less than 1,000 and possibly as few as 250. The owlet species had been seen many times in the nest but never any other times. Many scientists are excited about finding this little owl. There are so few of this bird because of the destruction of their habitat. Some call this owl "strange owl" because of the feathers around the eyes. This bird is so small it is not bigger than your fist.

New leopard species

A new species of leopard was found in Malaysia they reside in the rainforest's and are called clouded leopard of Borneo. It is a unique species of cat, they can get to the size of a small panther. Because the leopard is such a special species it shows us how important it is to conserve the heart of Borneo. There are about 5,000 to 11,000 clouded leopards in Borneo. The biggest threat to the cats is the destruction of their habitat.

Rare woodpecker

When there was a sighting of a woodpecker that everyone thought had been extinct for many years scientist were very excited. Now they are questioning whether or not it was the ivory billed woodpecker. The scientists think that it was just a different kind of wood pecker and not a ivory billed woodpecker. The video that was shot was not very clear and its possible that it was just a mistake. It would be really neat if the woodpecker wasn't extinct and just hiding for all those years.

Bald Eagles

Bald eagles are making a major come back. There was a nest found in Philadelphia and it is the first in two hundred years. Authorities hope that they will produce offspring so that there will be more in the future. They are really making a come back and are starting to populate Philadelphia again. Which is a really good thing I think its neat that they are making a comeback, it just goes to show that when someone cares about an endangered animal they can really make a difference.

Scientists are trying to decide whether or not to put polar bears on the endangered list. Because the glaciers are melting they have a hard time finding something to eat. I thought that this was a funny video so i decided to share.

Frogs

There are many species of frogs in which many of them are endangered. Scientists are trying to find a way to save them from extinction. Scientists say that if something is not done then they could have the same fate as the dinosaurs. They say that one-third to one-half of six thousand are close to extinction. Unlike many endangered animals frogs are threatened by a fungus that is killing them. The fungus wipes out ten species a year, scientists from other countries are coming to help save these poor helpless frogs. Zoos and many other places that give homes to many frogs are asked to take more in until they figure out how to stop the fungus from killing them. I hope they find a way to get rid of it soon. Frogs are really neat creatures and don't deserve to be wiped out.

Tigers in China

The tigers in China are making a come back because of the ban on tiger parts. People kill tigers for their bones and other parts supposeably for medicine and an aphrodisiacs. But because of the WWf and china making sure no one kills them they are they are not extinct. The tigers are still endangered but not nearly as close to extinction.

Mystery bird

A bird that hadn't been seen in 139 years was found Thailand, it was mistaken for a reed warbler. But after studying it over they discovered it was a Indian warbler a bird that is least known by scientists. The scientists are now trying to fin where they live so that they can figure out what is making them so scarce. Hopefully they will find more and save the ones that are left so that they can reproduce.

Helping endangered bugs

It is important to help save endangered bugs as well. They help he ecosystems to function correctly. For example if there were no bees to polonate crops then there would be no corn, tomatoes, watermelon, peppers, cucumbers and many more that depend on polonation to make the fruit for us to eat. Certain insects are needed to help things decompose so that the ground will have nutriants so that more trees and plants can grow to help out the world. Even though some bugs are kind of creepy that doesn't mean someone shouldn't care as much about them as they do about the adorable panda bears that are endangered. All animals, insects, and plants are important for us to protect.

Rain Forest Animals

There are quite a few animals that live in the rainforest. There are apes, monkeys, snakes, insects, birds, and lizards. They all depend on each other to survive and to keep each other in balance. Within the layers of the rain forest these animals live. All the insects are on the forest floor helping things to decompose, also gorillas, anteaters, jaguars and people. In the Understory layer insects, snakes, spiders, lizards, and jaguars looking for food. The canopy is home to monkeys, birds, and reptiles. Lastly the emergents has mostly birds and some more. The rainforest is a large home for many animals and if we keep cutting down the trees making the forests disappear the animals will disappear also. Therefore they will all go extinct leaving the world with fewer animals.

Rainforest animals

Did you know that 50% of animals live in the rain forest? Like many other species Rain forest animals will suffer greatly when the temperature changes causing it fluctuate. This is not good because the animals are use to hot steady temperatures. Also the animals are in danger because so many trees are being cut down, leaving many animals without habitats to live in.
