Bald Eagle

I thought this was neat how they got to release the eagle back in the wild not all animals get to be released after being saved or captured.

Coming off the endangered list

Here recently there have been a few animals that were listed as endangered, that have made such a come back that scientists are deciding to take them off the endangered list. But some think that could be a really bad desicion because that means they wont have such harsh protection as before, which could result in putting them back on the endangered list in the near future. Which would not be good at all once an animal goes off the endangered list they should be able to stay off. It is a shame that they still couldn't have some kind of protection for awhile after being taken off the list. Hopefully something will work out for the best.

Killer whales

The only group of killer whales that are endangered are a group of "southern resident" killer whales. The group that was sighted was only the second time in twenty years that this group has been seen. There are only eighty of this kind of killer whale. The whales feed on salmon and there have been less salmon causing fewer whales and the whales that are left to travel long distances to find food.

Manatees

Monday the U.S. fish and Wildlife service decided that manatees no longer need to be named endangered but put on the threatened list. When one first hears this they would probably think this is a good thing. In a way it is because there are more of them but at the same time its not, because they are not protected then people will poach them causing their numbers to go back down. The number of manatees has doubled this year with 2,812 manatees in Florida. Even though they are making a come back I don't think they should be taken off the endangered list quite yet.

Wild Coyote

On tuesday afternoon a coyote wandered into a Quiznos in Chicago. The door was proped open and it walked in and climbed in a cooler with juice and soda. The manager said it wasn't aggressive, the customers slowly cleared out and animal control came and got it out. If the coyote wasn't injured they would release it later on. I thought this was a funny story so I decided to share it with everybody.

Rare lions

In India there lives a rare lion, called the Asiatic lion. They are and endangered animal so they live on a national park. But they are still being poached, on Friday three carcases were found six miles from the park. Altogether nine have been killed in the last month. These beautiful animals are dieing because of poaching and measures are being taken to stop the poachers from killing them and making them extinct. Only about 350 of them exist and they are all in the park.
